Out of Home Advertising
Out-of-Home Advertising (OOH)
What is out-of-home advertising?
Out-of-home advertising (OOH) is a form of advertising found outside the consumer’s home. This includes billboards, bus stop or train station ads, and place-based ads like cinemas and shopping malls.
Other place-based media can be found in stadiums, retail outlets, fitness clubs, gyms, bars, and restaurants.
There is a fair amount of OOH advertising formats nowadays. As long as the ad is outside of your home and not on mobile, it is most likely an OOH ad.
Why OOH advertising is important?
Digital advertising can be very overwhelming nowadays. It is sometimes difficult to get your brand seen online with a swarm of advertisements out there.
Doing advertising outside the digital world is also beneficial if you are looking to gain more attention. It is important to back up your marketing strategy with a traditional tactic. Why? Your consumers will always spend time outdoors no matter what.
They will have to travel to work or drive to the shopping mall to hang out with friends. They will have to go to the grocery for their daily needs.
If you plan to spend big on advertising, be like Facebook and Google. Despite being a digital brand, they still turn to OOH to draw more attention.
Other huge brands like McDonald’s, Apple, Netflix, and Coca-Cola also use out-of-home advertising for their marketing efforts.
What are the benefits of OOH advertising?
OOH advertising is a good alternative or complement to online advertising for two main reasons:
- No ad blockers: Out-of-home ads are difficult to avoid when your consumers are outdoors.
- Positive effect on the buyer’s journey: A study by Ocean NeuroScience found that consumers are 48% more likely to interact with a digital ad after seeing an OOH ad first.
