5 Benefits of Social Media Contest to Your Business

Facebook contest as a social media strategy | Social media marketing by IH Digital

Brands nowadays have a lot of ways to engage with their market thru online advertising. One thing that catches social media users’ attention is a wall contest. Find out why this is the new social media marketing trend.

1. It creates brand awareness

Building your brand awareness is easy when you run a contest that requires people to submit a photo or video, tag their friends, use hashtags, or share your contest post. With this social media strategy, you can easily introduce your product or brand to people with the same interest as your followers.

2. It increases your page followers or subscribers

To increase your page followers and subscribers, you’ll need to promote your page but not in a loud and desperate way. How? Facebook contest!

Take a look at PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency which organised a contest to generate more subscribers on their YouTube channel and followers on their Facebook page.

3. It increases web traffic

Some contest requires people to visit the brand’s website in order to join. Others even ask their followers to subscribe to their newsletter or go online shopping with a minimum purchase. This is a smart move for businesses who want to gain more page views and users on their website.

4. It gives your followers a chance to be rewarded

A contest isn’t only meant for you to gain new followers but to retain and reward loyal followers or buyers as well. Admit it. Managing a page isn’t easy. You have to make sure your followers don’t go tired with your brand. Compelling and eye-catching contests that would benefit your followers can give you assurance for brand loyalty and generate more referrals to your brand.

Suisai took Valentine’s day as an opportunity to reward its followers thru a creative photo contest wherein each follower can tag their BFFs. This way, brand awareness is also increased

5. It increases page engagement

Want to make your social media page active and responsive? Running a contest is the best way to engage with your followers and potential followers. Once you have attracted people with a savvy contest, they will feel the need to follow your page and keep up with your product lines. They might want to see when will you drop your next big contest or big sale on your page!

Social Media Marketing: Celebrate Christmas by having Wall Contests!

social-media-marketing-christmas-wall-contestWhat’s Christmas without gifts? There’s no better time in the year for brands to step up their social media marketing game and conduct wall contests.

Everyone’s favourite festive season is coming! Everyone’s planning what gifts to get for their loved ones this Christmas. And, what’s a season of giving without giveaways on social media? There’s no better time for brands to step up their social media marketing game. Wall contests are effective in building fan base and brand loyalty. Besides rewarding fans for their unwavering support, wall contests help to drive engagement rates and reach out to a wider audience.

Listed below are three online marketing campaigns created in partnership with IH Digital, a digital marketing agency in Singapore. These campaigns are specially curated to celebrate this Christmas.

1. Kotobuki Singapore – “Guess the Dishes”

Kotobuki Singapore is giving away 5 Christmas sets, worth $68+ each. In this motion graphic, Koko dropped three dishes from his reindeer sleigh. To win, participants will just need to guess and leave the names of the three dishes in the comments below. They will need to also like the page and tag their friends as well. Encouraging participants to tag few of their friends is also an effective social media marketing strategy to build the fan base.

2. Sanitarium Singapore – “Ways to Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle”

Sanitarium Singapore is giving away a healthy gift pack in the spirit of Christmas. Similar to the Kotobuki’s wall contest, Sanitarium used a motion graphic as well. However, the gif was not used as part of the wall contest mechanism. Social media users have to list some ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle and share the post in order to win. Sharing the post allows it to become viral and increase its exposure, reaching out to more people on Facebook.

3. PUB Singapore – “Count with Water Wally”

If you are hoping to get more video views, turn it into a wall contest. PUB Singapore released an animation to give away CapitaLand Mall vouchers and Water Wally merchandise for this Christmas. In this video, Water Wally is putting up ornaments on the Christmas tree. Just count the number of blue water droplet ornaments placed on the Christmas and submit the answer in the comments section.

Addressing the Myths of China Social Media Marketing

China social media marketing is deeply misunderstood and underestimated, especially by overseas digital marketers. It is a lot more complicated and tedious compared to the conventional digital marketing. For instance, registering for an official account on the Chinese social media platforms – Weibo and WeChat – requires a lot more work compared setting up a Facebook business page. In this article, we will be addressing the common myths, allowing you to understand China social media better.

Myth #1 – I can easily reach out to the Chinese audience by having a Weibo account. Account verification is secondary.

That is a huge mistake. Other than providing brands with credibility, Weibo verification drives higher engagement rates as users are more receptive towards advertising campaigns run by official Weibo accounts. It is important to ensure that all your digital channels have been verified. This verification process is only required in China and businesses outside of China might not know this.

The verification process is very tedious and daunting. You would have to go through the trouble of producing all sorts of documentation and it takes a very long time to get the approval from the Chinese government. The Chinese digital platforms help to mitigate this problem by authorizing a few overseas agencies to provide verification services to businesses outside of China.

In 2017, IH Digital has been appointed Weibo’s official agency in Southeast Asia. The partnership allows IH Digital, Asia’s 360 Digital Marketing Agency, to provide Sina Weibo advertising solutions and Weibo account verification services to businesses outside China. These services will be provided via IH’s offices located throughout Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and The Philippines.

Myth #2 – WeChat and Weibo are both social platforms. I don’t have to include Weibo as part of my China Digital Marketing strategy.

China’s digital landscape is unique and very different from the global digital landscape. There is no direct comparison between the Chinese social media platforms and the conventional digital platforms – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.

Evolving from what was initially a microblogging platform similar to Twitter, Sina Weibo has since developed into a fully-integrated platform for content aggregation and distribution. With over 600 million users as of 2017, Sina Weibo is one of China’s largest social media platforms where users create, share, and discover Chinese-language content.

WeChat is similar to WhatsApp as it is a cross-platform instant messaging application. However, WeChat is commonly mistaken as a social platform as its “Moments” section is very similar to Facebook’s timeline. In light of this, Weibo should be the focus in your China social media marketing strategy, not WeChat.

Myth #3 – I am not getting a high engagement rate on Weibo. Does it mean that my campaign is failing?

Weibo and Facebook users differ in their engagement behaviours. The average engagement rate for Weibo campaigns is lower than Facebook’s and it is a known fact that only Chinese celebrities and KOLs (key opinion leaders) are getting the likes from the Chinese social media users. To determine the success of the Weibo marketing campaign, the judgement is made based on the number of impressions garnered.

IH Digital has been managing the Weibo page for Siam Paragon, a world-class shopping complex situated in Bangkok, Thailand. By producing engaging content and buying ads to reach out to the Chinese audience, the top posts garnered over 100,000 impressions. If you were to rate the page based on the typical Facebook’s standards, it would be rated very poorly as the engagement rates are considered low. However, the Weibo page is successful in connecting with its social media fans, helping Siam Paragon to establish its current position as the most popular shopping destination for Chinese tourists.

China digital marketing is deeply misunderstood and underestimated. In this article, we will be addressing the common myths of China social media marketing. Here are some posts created by IH Digital for Siam Paragon weibo page.
